Kupon lets you send friends “Kupons” — small IOUs for favors, treats and plans. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Kupon is operated by Kupon Inc. (“we”). Kupon does not handle money or payments.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your email address or phone number (depending on how you sign in), a display name and a unique username.
- Optional profile details: a profile photo and your birthday (month and day only, no year).
- Kupons: the title, description, emoji and dates of Kupons you send and receive, and who they are between.
- Friends: your friend list and friend requests.
- Newsletter: if you subscribe on our website, your email address.
Information collected automatically
- Push notification token: a device identifier we use to send you notifications, if you allow them.
- App integrity and diagnostics: technical signals used to protect the service from abuse and to fix crashes.
We do not collect your contacts, precise location, or advertising identifiers, and we do not show ads.
How we use it
- To run Kupon: delivering Kupons, showing your friends and Kupons, and sending notifications about them.
- To let friends find you by your exact username or email address.
- To remind your friends of your birthday, only if you turn on birthday sharing.
- To keep Kupon secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
- To send newsletter updates, if you subscribed. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Who can see your information
- Other Kupon users can see your display name, username and profile photo when they search for you or are your friend. Your birthday is visible to friends only if you choose to share it.
- The people you exchange Kupons with see those Kupons.
- Service providers process data on our behalf: Google Firebase (authentication, database, file storage, cloud functions and push notifications) and Apple (push notifications on iOS). If you sign in with Google or Apple, those companies handle that sign-in under their own policies.
- Legal reasons: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.
Your choices
- Edit your display name, photo and birthday-sharing setting in the app under Account.
- Notifications: turn them off at any time in your device settings.
- Delete your account in the app under Account → Delete account. This deletes your profile, username, profile photo, friend list, friend requests and the Kupons you received. Kupons you sent stay with the friends who received them, labeled as from a deleted user, and scheduled Kupons you sent are cancelled.
- You can also email support@kupon-app.com to access, correct or delete your information.
Data retention
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete the data described above promptly; backups that may contain it are overwritten on a rolling schedule.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and stored with Google Cloud. Access is restricted by security rules so that, for example, only the sender and receiver can read a Kupon. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
Kupon is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
International users
Kupon is operated from the United States, and your information is processed there.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy we will update the date above and tell you in the app.
